Cybercity
What is the Cybercity concept? Here you can find a brief overview.
The Cybercity PrincipleA Cybercity always consists of miniature environments or maquettes, and at least one video robot. The video robot, whose camera serves as a remote controlled ‘third eye’ of the viewer, enables the viewer to explore the constructed environment interactively from a pedestrian perspective. The video robot can be steered – locally – over a ‘game step pad’ or – world wide – over the internet, using our specially developed interface. The video images can be projected onto a large screen.

The artist collective Cybercity Ruhr developed the Cybercity/THIRD EYE concept further into a tangible and versatile program, focusing on telepresence technologies, urbanism, identity and intercultural exchange. They designed an artistic, educational workshop program with the main topic ‘City with no limits/City of the future’. After researching and debating their urban environments in order to develop future visions, the workshop participants construct maquettes to visualize their ideas. Those can be explored via the remote controlled video robots- either on site in interactive, multimedia based exhibitions, or via the internet. The robots serve as avatars; the audience can virtually 'dive' into these future worlds to explore them from the perspective of a pedestrian. The goal is to give people a voice on urban planning projects and the development of their habitat and detect special needs and perceptions.
